Have a framing method before committing to a build.
- Ambition and success indicators named
- Existing systems and processes mapped
- Risks and dependencies listed
- Lots prioritised, including what is deferred
- Business, IT and change roles identified
Digital transformation rarely fails from a lack of tools. It fails when ambition, the field and execution capacity are not put side by side. Framing is that alignment work.
Five framing steps
01
Name the business problem
Which process, service, delay, risk. Without that, every vendor has a solution.
02
Read what exists
Applications, data, skills, security and integration constraints. Modern systems often coexist with historical ones.
03
Prioritise
Impact, feasibility, dependencies. A roadmap that promises everything in nine months is not a roadmap.
04
Choose how to intervene
Build, buy or integrate. Sidéral recommends a bought solution when it is more relevant than custom development.
05
Prepare adoption
Roles, training, documentation, support. An architecture nobody can keep alive is not finished.
Frequent traps
- Starting from a fashionable technology.
- Confusing a POC with production.
- Forgetting data and permissions.
- Treating change as a communication lot at the end.
